Jerusalem

Written by Doug Harvey

Verse
Khadra was born in 1939
In Jerusalem in the land called Palestine
Last year her only son
Was killed by a Jewish gun
And she’ll never ever get that memory out of her mind

Chorus
Oh Jerusalem, city of the Holy Son
They’re running in the streets from the sound of the bombs and guns
Oh Jerusalem, what have they done?
It’s never gonna stop ‘til we’re blown to Kingdom come

Verse
Yakov came here in 1983
Ran away from a village on the shore of the Baltic Sea
His wife was killed by a bomb
In the name of Holy Islam
Ain’t no way he’s ever gonna let it be

Repeat Chorus

Verse
Two separate worlds, one Arab, one Jew
The leaders can’t say they don’t know what to do
Everybody’s got a cross to bear
It’s never ever gonna be fair
You just the take the baby and cut it in two

Repeat Chorus

You gotta do something, you just can’t let it go
You can’t stand the pain and the maddening loss of control
Sometimes you just gotta fight
Do anything to make it right
When you know you just can’t live with the status quo

Fake News Blues

American Delirium

He says that the papers are full of fake news
Dishonest reporters distort points of view
He lies about lying, that much is true
I got the blues
This guy is bad news

He just can’t stop lying, that much we all know
I think he gets off when his Pinocchio grows
He’s got to get even with those who oppose
That’s how it goes
On the fake news show

Bridge
He’s got an agenda and he’s spreading the word
He’s on a vendetta and he won’t be deterred
The world as he sees it is truly absurd
Every time he opens his mouth he’s flipping us the bird

He can’t tell the difference between fiction and fact
His gigantic whoppers are totally whacked
You know that he’s fakin’ it
It’s all a big act
Between me and you
He’s making fake news

Solo

Repeat Bridge

So try to remember it’s all a big lie
There’s no rhyme and no reason, there’s no telling why
Don’t fall for the gaslight
Don’t just lay down and die
When you get the blues
From the real fake news

Don’t fall for the bullshit
Don’t fall for the lies
When you get the blues
From the real fake news

Let’s MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN

Let’s make America great again
Let’s vote for Donald J. Trump
Get rid of the Muslims and Mexicans
He’ll get us over the hump

Let’s pick a guy who’s a winner
Even though he’s just a beginner
He’s a brilliant hustler and spinner
And nobody’s lackey or chump

Let’s make a deal with the Donald
To once again make our country great
So what if he’s not the best that we got
We can harness the power of hate

Let’s build a wall bigger than China
And make the Mexicans pay
Levy big duties, give ‘em all cooties
The bastards that take jobs away

He can do business with Putin
He’ll stop the leeches from lootin’
He’s not afraid to start shootin’
When losers get in his way

Let’s cancel health care for poor folks
And tear up the deal with Iran
Build a Trump Tower in Cuba
And give atom bombs to Japan

It’s time to bomb North Korea
We’ve had enough of their crap
He’ll ship refugee shias to camps in Crimea
And blow ISIS clear off the map

There’s no time to be empathetic
When so much is just so pathetic
The treatment requires an emetic
So an asshole must be the right choice

Let’s make America great again
Let’s put America first
Tell our allies we’re outta here guys
Unless we get reimbursed

Yes Donald’s the man for America
He’s rich and he’s selfish and bold
That son of a gun, I know he’s the one
‘Cause he knows how to go for the gold

Donald won’t mend any fences
Or worry about his offenses
Ignore the truth of your senses
And swallow the lies that he’s told

The GOP is in trouble
If this is the best they can do
Picking Donald will show how little they know
And prove that they can’t buy a clue

So let’s make America great again
Let’s not vote for Donald J. Trump
If we give the power to the man of the hour
We’ll kick ourselves in the rump

BoB DYLAN WON THE NOBEL PRIZE

Appears on

Written by Doug Harvey

American Delirium

We were sitting drinking coffee when
A voice came on the news at ten
With a headline that took us by surprise.
The earth stood still; the axis tipped.
I swear I felt a seismic shift
When I heard Bob Dylan won the Nobel Prize
Bob Dylan won the Nobel Prize

It was just before Election Day
America was giving way
To lying charlatans and Russian spies
The Nobel vote was strange and smart
To see the genius in his art
And so Bob Dylan won the Nobel Prize
Bob Dylan won the Nobel Prize

Leonard Cohen died that week.
I tried to turn the other cheek,
Then Leon Russell said his last goodbyes.
When I heard about Mose Allison
I thought “Man, you just cannot win,
But at least Bob Dylan won the Nobel Prize.”
Bob Dylan won the Nobel Prize

That weekend Kate McKinnon sang
“Hallelujah” and I felt the pangs
Of grief and tears fell hotly from my eyes.
When so much goes wrong it’s hard to know
Just what to think, which way to go,
But, hey, Bob Dylan won the Nobel Prize
Bob Dylan won the Nobel Prize

It’s a hot and muggy mid-July,
The rain is fallin’ hard outside,
Yet folks can’t see what’s right before their eyes.
There’s no such thing as climate strange,
A statement truly false and strange,
Like Bob Dylan won the Nobel Prize
Bob Dylan won the Nobel Prize

It’s hard to tell reality
From a show I once saw on TV;
There’s so many nasty outright lies.
Sometimes it makes my blood run cold.
The center may or may not hold,
But at least Bob Dylan won the Nobel Prize
Bob Dylan won the Nobel Prize
