The Best Things Money Can’t Buy

Listen to clip
Written by Doug Harvey and Nan O’Malley

As I sit here on my front porch swing
The roses are blooming and everything
Is alive with the joy of spring
This I know
The best things money can’t buy

No money can buy what a songbird sings
Or the blue in the sky when she’s on the wing
Or the laughter of children as they run and play
This I know
The best things money can’t buy

You can ride around in a limousine
Spend money like a cash machine
But a friend who is there when the world is cold
Is worth their weight in silver and gold

So the things that really count in the end
Have nothing to do with what you spend
Except time with the ones you love
This I know
The best things money can’t buy

Will You Marry Me?

Listen to clip
Written by Elizabeth Gladen and Doug Harvey

Verse (Him):
I can’t remember what I used to do
Without you here by my side
I can’t imagine what my life would be like
Without your love as my guide
They say everybody’s got a soul mate
That you meet just once in your life
Girl, I know you’re the one mate for me
And I want you to be my wife

Chorus (Him):
Will you marry me?
And be my lifetime lover?
Will you share with me
This feeling we have together forever?
Will you marry me?
Will you marry me?

Verse (Her):
When you came along
I was happy alone
Just looking for a little fun
When you called me again
I started to think
Maybe this could be the one
There was something in you
And somehow I knew
My lonely days were all in the past
And I’ve been hoping that you
Felt the same way too
So what took you so long to ask?

Chorus (Her):
I will marry you
And be your lifetime lover
I will share with you
This feeling we have together forever
I will marry you, I will marry you

Bridge (Him):
I’ll be the best friend that you’ve ever had
(Her)
I’ll be there when you’re happy or sad
(Both)
I’ll be there every night and day
I’ll be so happy when I hear you say

Repeat Chorus

Say the Perfect Thing

Listen to clip
Written by Todd Stuart and Doug Harvey

Verse
What you feared was never there
Was there all along
And what you feared might let you down
Unraveled in our sleep

Verse
I know you wonder where I am
All you know is that I’m not with you
I know that I’d be with you now
If you asked…Oh well

Chorus
Love comes from nothing
From nothing at all
It slips away like it was never here at all
Say anything, anything at all
I can’t wait for you
I can’t wait for you to say
Can’t wait for you to say
The perfect thing

Verse
What can I say to you
That’s not been said before?
How do I go on when I know
You don’t want me anymore

Verse
I’m better off without you now
They say it won’t be long
But they don’t know you like I do
They haven’t loved you like I do

Repeat Chorus

Bridge
They say that patience is my protection
In the cruel hard light of love’s defection
Tell me they’re all wrong
Tell me they’re all wrong

 Verse
Sometimes in my dreams at night
I have no song to sing
Sometimes in my dreams you speak
You say the perfect thing
You say the perfect thing
You say the perfect thing

This Time It’s Really Over

Listen to clip
Written by Doug Harvey

Verse:
This time it’s gone too far; I feel it in my bones
No letter in the mail, no message on the phone
You stepped across the line that I drew in the sand
Now there’s no turning back; there’s no more second chance

Pre-Chorus
I don’t know what to do; I walk up and down the floor
I hear voices in the house – is that you knocking at the door?
It’s painful and it’s tragic to admit we lost the magic
And it’s never coming back here anymore

Chorus
This time it’s really over
This time it’s time to say goodbye
This time it’s understood
This time you’re gone for good
This time there’s no more one more try
This time it’s really over
This time we’ve both made up our minds
This time will be the last
This time we burned and crashed
This time there’s no more one more try

Verse:
You need another guy who’s not so much like me
It’s time we both admit it’s just not meant to be
We can’t go on this way – ships passing in the night
Let’s make the best of it; let’s try to make it right

Pre-Chorus
I never loved someone as much as I love you
I’m gonna miss you, baby, it makes me feel so blue
But there’s just no way to fix it
So the best thing is to nix it
‘Cause we’ve run out of other things to do

Repeat Chorus

Old Enough To Know Better

Written by Doug Harvey

I’m old enough to know better
And young enough not to care
I’ve spent some time underwater
Done my share of walkin’ on air
Ups and downs, I’ve been around
Here, there and everywhere
I’m old enough to know better
And still young enough not to care

My daddy always used to tell me
Don’t bun your candle at both ends
But when the day is done
There’s too much fun
So many parties and so many friends
Drinkin’ and dancin’ and chasin’ girls
Drivin’ hot cars way too fast
You gotta make hay and go out and play
Because the good times might not last

I’m old enough to know better
Still young enough not to care
Too old to rock and roll
But too young for Medicare
I’ve gained a little weight since high school
And I’ve lost quite a bit of my hair
I’m old enough to know better
Still young enough not to care

I’m a baby boomer from the fifties
I loved Lucy and Desi Arnaz
When the Beatles and Bob Dylan came along
I got lost in the rain in Juarez
In the seventies I smoked loco weed
Pretty much every day
Can’t say it ever hurt me much
Or ever really got in the way

Now Jack Daniels and Johnny Walker
Are two of my very best friends
We spend many happy hours together
And the occasional lost weekend
Searching for the perfect blend
Things got crazy in the eighties
In fact they went around the bend
We slowed down but our nights on the town
Will never really come to an end

I’m old enough to know better
Still young enough not to care
I’ve been married three or four times
In between a few affairs
Now I’m probably over the hill
And a little bit worse for wear
But I’m old enough to know better
Still young enough not to care

Time After Time

Listen to clip
Written by Doug Harvey

Verse:
When we met it was deja vu
You knew me and I knew you
You knew the story of my life
I knew you would be my wife
Another time, another place
Another name, another face
I knew I’d known you
Time after time

Verse:
‘Round and ’round
In the womb of time
Our two lives intertwine
As each generation lives and dies
We write chapters in our lives
Ever since the world began
You’re my woman, I’m your man
Our love will survive
Time after time

Chorus:
Over, over and over
Again and again and again
I’ve learned
That you’ll be with me ‘til the end
‘Til the end of the line
And I know
That you’ll be in all of my lives
Time after time

Verse:
Every time our glances meet
My heart beats an ancient beat
‘Cause there’s a ghost inside my soul
That knows your face and won’t grow old
Ever since the dawn of time
I’ve been yours
And you’ve been mine
Our love will survive
Time after time

You’re Gonna Like What I Got

Need demo
Written by Doug Harvey

I’m not a millionaire
I’m not good-looking or debonair
No sophistication or savoir-faire
But I believe you’re gonna like what I got

I don’t drive a big expensive car
Don’t go to parties with movie stars
Don’t have a taste for Russian caviar
But I believe you’re gonna like what I got

Like Romeo and Juliet
I got a love that you will never forget
I tell you what, this love that I got
Is just about as good as it gets

I don’t wear no fancy threads
Not educated or too well-read
I’m not exactly what you’d call well-bred
But I believe you’re gonna like what I got

I don’t have a private plane
Don’t have a summer cottage down in Maine
Don’t have a cellar full of fine champagne
But I believe you’re gonna like what I got

Repeat Bridge

I’m not an entrepreneur
Not a pundit or restaurateur
My code of ethics is a bit impure
But I believe you’re gonna like what I got

When Love Finds You

Written by Doug Harvey

I was sitting there minding my business
Sipping a drink at the bar
When a good-looking woman walked in and sat down
She looked like a movie star
I could hear her laugh above the chatter
I could see she had a great big smile
She had a little glint of devil in her eye
I stared for quite a while
I wasn’t looking for a lover
I’d been alone for a couple of years
Then out of the blue, this ingénue magically appears

When love finds you
It doesn’t give you any clue
It sneaks right up and takes you by surprise
Then it hits you right between the eyes
When love finds you
There’s nothing that you can do
In a New York minute, before you know,
Love has grabbed you and it won’t let go
No, there’s nothing that you can do
When love finds you

You can spend lots of time and money
Searching for the perfect mate
Love is blind, so it won’t mind
If you strike out on every date
Don’t sign up for OK Cupid
Just forget about Match.com
When love decides to take you for a ride
It hits you like an atom bomb
I know I’ve found a true romance
Not a hookup or a one-night stand
It’s the real deal, the way she makes me feel
I feel like a natural man

Repeat Chorus

When It’s Over

Listen to clip
Written by Doug Harvey

When it’s over
How do you know that it’s over?
When the other one decides that’s it
How do you know when to quit?
When for awhile there’s no contact
How do you tear up the contract
When all you want is your lover
Back in your arms

That feeling
You know that sinking feeling
Every day, every hour, every minute
Has no word from your lover in it
You can’t reach out and touch
The one you still love so much
You never knew that love
Could be such pain

When it’s over
How can you teach your heart not to care?
You still reach out in the night
Even though you know she’s not there
You remember all the good times
All the letters, the laughter and fun
When it’s over you realize
You’re coming undone

You never know the end for sure
‘Cause love is never clear and pure
All you know is the hunger and the yearning
And people like to change their minds
Love is foolish, cruel and blind
And lovers have a way of returning

Repeat Chorus

It’s Time

Listen to clip
Written by Todd Stuart and Doug Harvey

Verse:
Here I am
deep in this place
this place where we were
alone and in love
and here I am
so deep in this place
this place where we were
alone and in tears

This is who I am
This is how I feel
so, where are you now?
where are you now?

Chorus:
But it’s time (time)
time to say it’s over
time to say goodbye
to turn and walk away
yes, it’s time (time)
time to say it’s over
time to say goodbye
to turn and walk away
turn and walk away

Verse:
My heart is open
I welcomed you in
your love had me floating
like clouds in the sky
but my heart is aching
from letting you in
you had me singing
love lifting me high
no wonder I’m crying
when it’s time, time to say goodbye

Repeat Chorus

Bridge:
how could I know
you were walking away?
how could I know
you didn’t want to stay?
how could I know
we’d end up this way?

Repeat Chorus
