You don’t know what it’s like
You don’t know how it feels
To be a stranger in a strange land
Where the truth must be concealed
Lord knows I tried to follow the rules
Lord knows I tried to fit in
Lord knows I failed each time I lied
Lord knows my life is no sin
They look at me then they look away
They don’t much like what they see
I can’t tell and I’ll never know
If it’s them or if it’s me
Everybody gravitates to their own kind
Everybody needs to belong
Each of us is safe inside the collective mind
Right or left, right or wrong
What makes you think you know what’s on my mind?
What makes you think you understand?
Don’t you remember that justice is blind?
And things don’t always go the way you planned
You have no right to judge my life
Nobody died and made you king
The world is big enough to go around;
Can’t you understand that simple thing?
